Staying in the Valle del Diaterna

The Valle del Diaterna and the municipality of Firenzuola offer a range of places to stay, from farm holidays to bed & breakfasts, for an authentic, first-hand experience of the area

🌿 Agritourism in Mugello

The farm stays in the area offer rooms and flats surrounded by nature, often with a restaurant serving local specialities: PGI chestnuts, porcini mushrooms, olive oil, cheeses and cured meats from the Apennines. A slow kind of stay, far from the pace of the city.

Mugello: Land of Hospitality

One of the most authentic corners of Tuscany, still off the main mass-tourism circuits

The Mugello — the valley of the Sieve and its tributaries, the Diaterna among them — has for centuries been one of the most fertile and welcoming areas of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines. Homeland of the Medici, land of farmers and craftsmen, over the centuries the Mugello has developed a tradition of hospitality rooted in farming and forestry.

Staying in the Valle del Diaterna means immersing yourself in a landscape that has remained largely intact: chestnut and beech woods, pastures, clear streams, silent medieval villages. A sharp contrast with the mass tourism of the coast or the art cities, and one that draws a curious traveller, attentive and respectful of the land.

For up-to-date information on accommodation in the municipality of Firenzuola, we suggest consulting the official Municipality of Firenzuola website or the regional portal Visit Tuscany.

Local Gastronomy

The authentic flavours of the Apennine tradition

🌰 Marrone del Mugello IGP

The chestnut is the gastronomic symbol of the Mugello. The Marrone del Mugello PGI stands out for its sweet, crisp and aromatic flesh. In autumn, chestnut festivals enliven the villages of the area. It is found as flour, roasted chestnuts, cakes and preserves.

🍄 Funghi Porcini

The woods of the Valle del Diaterna are rich in porcini mushrooms, especially between September and October. Local restaurants and farm stays use them widely in first courses, main courses and starters. Picking is subject to local regulations.

🫒 Olive Oil and Local Produce

Extra virgin olive oil, acacia and chestnut honey, sheep's cheeses and artisan cured meats complete the gastronomic picture of this area. Many farm stays produce their own and sell directly to visitors.
